A twelve-time winner, the French-bred mare joined the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard in November 2019 and recorded two Listed victories in 2020. She continued to be a force to be reckoned with in top-level mares' chases, adding further Listed wins in 2022 and 2023. Although Zambella was never able to place in the Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, she finished fourth in the race twice against the best of the Irish mares.

"She has been brilliant, she jumped beautifully and was so genuine and it is a great shame she has got to retire, but she will breed some lovely foals I think," said Twiston-Davies.

"She was the best of the British but then the Irish would come over and beat her at the Festival.

"But otherwise she was best of the Brits and there are lots of highlights. We hope we can find another one."

Regular rider Daryl Jacob also paid tribute to the mare on the social media platform X, saying: "My Queen. Every year you delivered. You gave everything you could and gained such a following. You really were a very special mare. Happy retirement!".
