Sense Of Duty looking to benefit in rearranged Wentworth Stakes

Sense Of Duty will be looking to extend her unbeaten record on the all-weather in the rearranged Listed Wentworth Stakes at Newcastle on Saturday.

The William Haggas-trained filly put together a string of three consecutive victories in 2022, including a comfortable success in the course and distance Group 3 Chipchase Stakes in June. Third on reappearance in the Group 3 Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes at Newbury, Sense Of Duty struggled on heavy ground in the Group 1 British Champion Stakes at Ascot.

"She had a long break and ran well at Newbury on reappearance over an inadequate trip, but to be honest was probably a little bit disappointing at Ascot," said Richard Brown, St Albans Bloodstock's racing manager.

"She was very impressive when she won the Chipchase at Newcastle so going back up there to the same course and distance, we will see if history could repeat itself.

"William's horses are in great form, and it would be great to put her away with a win under her belt."

William Haggas' filly will face some stiff opposition, including three fillies from the Nick Bradley Racing syndicate – Sophia's Starlight and Glorious Angel, trained by Grant Tuer and Karl Burke's Secret Angel. Sophia's Starlight is the favoured one of the trio in the market, having finished a good second in the Listed Boudicea Stakes at Newmarket's Rowley Mile when last seen.

"Sophia's Starlight is probably first string, we think she's a very good filly and she'll win a Group race, she's one we're excited about going forward," said Bradley.

"At Newmarket, she ran very well, she was just a bit unlucky. Had this race been on turf in heavy ground I'd have been quite bullish, obviously, it's switched but in our mind, she's still our first string."

Sense Of Duty is the 6/5 favourite for Saturday's Wentworth Stakes.
