Ornate among field of six for Wolverhampton

Group Two runner-up Ornate heads six runners for the Download The New Unibet Racing App Conditions Stakes over five furlongs on Tapeta at Wolverhampton on Saturday, December 5.

The winner of this Fast-Track Qualifier receives a guaranteed and free place in the £150,000 Unibet 3-Y-O Sprint All-Weather Championships Conditions Stakes over the same distance at Lingfield Park on All-Weather Championships Finals Day, Good Friday, March 25.

Ornate (William Haggas/Pat Cosgrave), owned by Cheveley Park Stud, makes his All-Weather debut following a progressive turf campaign that culminated with a fine run in the Group Two Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster, when he went down by a head to Gutaifan.

His chief rival on Saturday looks set to be the Charlie McBride-trained Quatrieme Ami (Danny Tudhope), who has gained two impressive victories over the minimum trip.

The son of Equiano followed up success in a Windsor maiden on turf with a fast-finishing length win over Sign Of The Kodiac in a five-furlong nursery handicap at Wolverhampton on November 13, when he broke the Tapeta course record.

McBride commented today: "Quatrieme Ami is a very, very nice colt. We have always thought a lot of him but he fractured a tibia earlier on in the year and that is why he wasn't out until late in the season.

"Danny Tudhope was very complimentary after he rode him last time and Quatrieme Ami is a horse that has got such natural speed. He reminds me of a horse I used to ride called Sizzling Melody, who was also a natural sprinter and won the Norfolk Stakes and the Flying Childers.

"Quatrieme Ami has won his last two races nicely and he has been working well. The track and trip will suit him and it is just a question of whether he is good enough to beat Ornate or not.

"The plan will be to get him qualified for Finals Day. If he did win on Saturday, we would give him a little break over Christmas and then start again in the New Year to get him ready for Good Friday.

"If he doesn't win, we will aim to get another run into him so he is qualified that way."

James Given is responsible for three runners with Sign Of The Kodiac (Tom Eaves), Sir Dudley (P J McDonald) and Men United (James Sullivan) due to line up for the Lincolnshire handler, while course and distance winner Kashtan (Harry Dunlop/Luke Morris) completes the field on Saturday.
