Robert Cowell Confirms Retirement Of Goodwood Hero Intrinsic

Robert Cowell described Intrinsic as "a wonderful horse" after last year's Stewards' Cup winner was retired to stud due to injury.

The five-year-old entire won four races on the spin in 2014, culminating in a one-length victory at Glorious Goodwood last August.

Intrinsic has only been seen once this season, when down the field in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, and will stand at Hedgeholme Stud in County Durham.

"It is with great sadness that we have made the decision, along with Malih Al Basti (owner), to retire Intrinsic," his Newmarket trainer told www.robertcowellracing.co.uk.

"He had a very small injury which was preventing him from continuing to race.

"He has been a wonderful horse to have in training and he leaves us with very fond memories, including the highlight of him storming to victory in the Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood last year.

"He has enormous potential, however unfortunately will now not be able to fulfil that promise.

"He is also from a very smart family, raised by Cheveley Park Stud.

"He had an amazing temperament in training and we are sure he will do a very professional job at stud also."
