Kingman Given July Cup Option

Kingman is the eyecatching name among 48 entries for the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on July 12.

A startling winner of the Greenham on his return to action over seven furlongs, John Gosden's colt was caught close home by Night Of Thunder in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket at the weekend on his first run over a mile.

Other three-year-olds who ran in the Guineas and may drop in trip include Spanish raider Noozhoh Canarias, Charm Spirit and Lucky Kristale, who disappointed in the fillies' Classic on Sunday.

Other overseas possibles include Zoustar, Shea Shea, American Devil, Gammarth and the Wesley Ward-trained Undrafted.

Undrafted, who is owned by American football star Wes Welker, finished second in a Grade Three at Churchill Downs on Friday.

Ward said: "Undrafted ran the best race of his life at Churchill Downs last Friday. As long as he shows enough to warrant a trip across the Atlantic in his next race, at Belmont Park in a month's time, then the plan is to go to Newmarket.

"Wes Welker is an extremely lucky owner who loves to go to the races and let his hair down. He has already been to Ascot and had a great time there."

Aidan O'Brien is typically strongly represented, with Darwin, Due Diligence and Giovanni Boldini among his team of entries. Other Irish interest comes from the likes of Maarek, Sole Power, Slade Power, Viztoria and Gordon Lord Byron.

Aljamaaheer, Pearl Secret, Hot Streak, Moviesta and Astaire are others among the top-class entry.
