Filly shows her style at Awapuni

Deedee Panache passed a home track test with flying colours on Saturday to earn herself an early shot at black type.

The promising filly was on trial for higher honours in the BJW Motors Premier at Awapuni and her victory was enough for trainer Jeff Lynds to confirm a trip to Wellington on January 30.

“We put her in to get a line on her for the Desert Gold Stakes so that’s where we’ll be going now,” he said.

“She’s obviously quite a handy horse. She’s gone from 1200 to 1400 metres and we’ll see if she can get a mile.”

Lynds knows the Darci Brahma filly’s family well having trained her dam Lady Winifred, whose colt (Lot 976) will be sold by Wentwood Grange during the Select session at Karaka on January 27, to win five races.

Second on debut before she went one better at Otaki last month, Deedee Panache settled off the pace and came with a well-timed run under Rosie Myers to beat Bella Court.

Levin Classic hopeful Shadows Cast was a brave third after being under pressure at the top of the straight and he should appreciate the step up to a mile for the Group One feature at Trentham next Saturday.

The favourite Black Sav was a solid fourth, after racing three wide, and the winner’s stablemate Firebird Flyer was next to finish.
