Size, or lack of it, hasn’t stopped Sheradream from taking some big steps.
The diminutive youngster has stood tall in three starts and she will be shooting for consecutive wins when she runs in Saturday’s Tavistock Syndicate Owners 2YO at Ruakaka.
Trained by Scott Lucock and Sally Gillespie, Sheradream showed plenty of heart on a Heavy 10 track at Avondale last time out to open her winning account at the expense of the highly-regarded Serious Satire.“We’re very happy with her and she’s trained-on well,” Lucock said. “She’s drawn nicely and at set weights and penalties she gets in well as the only winner in the field.”
At 14.2 hands, Sheradream will be overshadowed by her rivals, but Lucock said the Captain Rio filly had a steely resolve.“She’s tiny and you feel a bit embarrassed about walking around with her, but she is very tough.”
Sheradream finished third on debut in January behind the talented Untamed Diamond and following a break she filled a similar placing to Enigma Machine, rated by his trainer Ben Foote as the best horse he has had.“She makes the most of what she’s got and after Avondale we know she can cop a wet track and she’s already gone very well at both her other starts at Ruakaka. We’ll have no excuses.”
Lucock said Sheradream was likely to be given her shot at the country’s final feature juvenile event if she raced up to expectations at the weekend.“Logically, we would have to have a look at the Ryder Stakes in late July. It’s her last chance as a two-year-old to get some black type.”
