Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Friday’s meeting at Canberra.

Tony The Pony (Race 2) has firmed three points to $5.50 since markets opened. He has placed on two of four runs this time in, both on heavy tracks, and has only once missed a place once from five goes in the mud.

Vella Lonchick (Race 8) is now a clear second pick in the market at $3.90 having shortened more than a point this morning. She has raced three times this campaign, all at this track on heavy going, for two placings so should be fit enough to get through the 10-rated track today.
