Hong Kong Stakes Winner For Duporth

Australian sire Duporth was represented by his first stakes winner when his 4YO gelding Dashing Fellow won the HKG3 Hong Kong Macau Trophy at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Dashing Fellow is out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Moon Fever.

Duporth, by Red Ransom from Staging, was G1 winning sprinter who produced the multiple G1-placed Cornrow in his first crop.

• FORMER shuttle sire Teofilo was represented by his second G1 winner in 24 hours when Special Fighter won the Al Maktoum Challenge R3 at Meydan on Saturday night.

Teofilo has sired his ninth top-level winner when Palentino won the G1 Australian Guineas at Flemington on Saturday.

Special Fighter became number 10 when he upset a top level field of Dubai World Cup contenders including Mubtaahij and Keen Ice.

Neither managed to place as Special Fighter, 5YO entire trained by Musabah Al Muhairi for Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, easily accounting for the Australian-bred Dubawi gelding Gun Pi from Hong with Faulkner (Pivotal) third.

Special Fighter - a dual winner in Britain for Mark Johnston - is one of 52 stakes winners by Teofilo (Galileo).

He is from Susu, a daughter of Machiavellian and sold to Darley for 55,000gns as a yearling. She went on to win the G2 Challenge Stakes for Sir Michael Stoute and Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed.

Susu died in 2011, having produced four winners from four runners with Special Fighter her last foal.

• PROGENY by champion sire Deep Impact swept the lead-up trials or the Japanese classics over the weekend.

Makahiki (Deep Impact x Wikiwiki by French Deputy) landed the G2 Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas Trial) at Nakayama while his filly Sinhalite won the G3 Tulip Sho, a trial for the Japanese 1000 Guineas, at Hanshin.

Deep Impact is now the sire of 76 stakes winners.

Undefeated Makahiki lowered the colours of the previously unbeaten 2015 Japanese champion juvenile male Leontes (King Kamehameha) by a neck with G2 winner Air Spinel (King Kamehameha) third.

• SHUTTLE sire Bernardini sired his 45th stakes winner when his 3YO colt Shagaf (Bernardini x Muhaawara by Unbridled’s Song) took another step towards the Kentucky Derby with a strong win in G3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday.

• CHAMPION filly Songbird (Medalia D’Oro x Ivanavinalot by West Acre) was not pressed to keep her unbeaten record intact in Saturday’s G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes at Santa Anita.

Songbird is unbeaten in six starts and is one of 85 stakes winners by shuttle sire Medaglia d’Oro.
