Another accolade was bestowed on the all-conquering Dubawi when his 3YO colt Erupt won this week’s G1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp.
In becoming Dubawi’s 20th G1 winner and eighth this year, Erupt gave the former Darley shuttler the honour of being the first stallion in 70 years to sire the winners of the French Derby and Grand Prix de Paris with two different horses after New Bay won the Chantilly classic in May.
With eight G1 winners Dubawi is well out in front as the leading G1 sire in the world in 2015. Next with four G1 winners each are Captain Al, High Chaparral, Savabeel, Scat Daddy and Tapit while Hard Spun, Fastnet Rock, Street Sense, Dylan Thomas, King Kamehameha, Pivotal, Redoute’s Choice and Snitzel have all sired three G1 winners.Dubawi has sired a total of 17 Group winners in 2015 featuring Dubai World Cup hero Prince Bishop, star miler Night Of Thunder, top French three-year-olds New Bay and Erupt, the evergreen Al Kazeem, impressive Dubai winner Hunter's Light and the crack Australian sprinter Shamal Wind.
Erupt (Dubawi x Mare Nostrum by Caerleon) is trained by Francis-Henri Graffard and will now be aimed at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in October.A Niarchos family homebred, Erupt remains unbeaten in four starts after victories in the G3 Prix du Lys and the Listed Coupe de Trois Ans.
A Niarchos Family homebred, Erupt is a son of the G3-winner Mare Nostrum (Caerleon), who was also placed in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary and G1 Prix Vermeille.Mare Nostrum has produced four winners to date including the stakes winner Marie de Medici, dam of G3 UAE Oaks winner Local Time, and multiple winner Roman Republic (Cape Cross).
Montjeu, Dalakhani and Air Chief Marshal also sired notable winners on the Bastille Day program at Longchamp.The late Coolmore stallion Montjeu sired his 118th stakes winner when the 6YO entire Walzertakt (Montjeu x Walzerkoenigin by Kingmambo) won the G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil over 2800m for trainer Jean-Pierre Carvalho.
Current shuttle sire Dalakhani sired his 44th stakes winner when the Aga Khan’s three-year-old filly Candarliya (Dalakhani x Candara by Barathea) won the Listed Prix De Thiberville for trainer Alain De Royer-Dupre.Air Chief Marshal, a son of Danehill Dancer, sired his first stakes winner when Rougeoyant (Air Chief Marshal x Red Vixen by Agnes World) was victorious in the Listed Prix Roland De Chambure.
