Secret Sham’s win the G3 Premier Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday may be an omen for his big name stablemate Able Frend at Royal Ascot this week.
Secret Sham is an Australian-bred son of Shamardal, as is his John Moore-trained stablemate Able Friend.
Australian-breds won eight of the 11 races at Sha Tin with Moore saddling five of the nine runners in the Premier Cup including the odds-on favourite and former Sydney G1 placed Not Listenin’tome.
But it was rank outsider Secret Sham who led from soon after the start under Nash Rawiller to score an upset win in one of the last feature races of the season in Hong Kong and earn himself another preparation. The five-year old beat Real Specialist and Exciting Dream with the favourite a disappointing sixth.
Secret Sham is one of seven winners from nine foals to race from his dam Confidential Miss.He was sold for $410,000 at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale where he was offered by Rothwell Park.
A notable winner on the Sha Tin card was People’s Knight, a three-year-old by Exceed And Excel out of Allegra having only his second start.Bred and offered by Kia Ora Stud, People's Knight was sold to John Moore’s son George for $1 million at the 2014 Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale.
