Excellent Demand For Art Yearlings

Following a great sale at Deauville, buyers proved keen to snap up Excellent Art's first progeny at Doncaster's Premier Yearling Sale this week.

Sir Robert Ogden, bidding via racing manager Barry Simpson, paid £75,000 for a colt out of the Persian Bold mare Sao Gabriel from the family of classic winners Love Divine and Sixties Icon.

Two-year-old king Richard Hannon is likely to train the colt for Ogden,

Offered from Ciaran 'Flash' Conroy's Glenvale Stud, the Sean Collins-bred colt had been bought for 44,000 euros as a foal at Goffs.

Another popular Excellent Art was a colt out of the Fasliyev mare All Began, bred by Howard Spooner and sold from Eddie O'Leary's Lynn Lodge Stud for £50,000 to BBA Ireland.

David Armstrong's Highfield Farm, Blandford Bloodstock and Federico Barberini were among the others to snap up Excellent Art's first crop at Doncaster.

These followed a great Arqana August Yearling Sale at Deauville, where Excellent Art had a filly out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Fusaichi Dreams sell for 102,000 euros to Mandore International.

At the same sale he also had a colt bought for 90,000 euros by Paul Nataf and a filly sell for 80,000 euros to Horse France.

A precocious juvenile, who won the G2 Mill Reef Stakes at two, Excellent Art went on to land the G1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot at three.

He shuttles to Coolmore Australia this spring.

Two-year-old trainers also proved eager to snap up Strategic Prince's first crop at the Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale.

His sales included a £62,000 colt bred by Norelands Bloodstock and consigned from Joe and Jane Foley's Ballyhane.

The colt is out of the In The Wings mare Tea Chest. He was knocked down to Ross Doyle of Peter Doyle Bloodstock and looks set to join Hannon.

Epsom trainer Robert Mills was another Strategic Prince admirer and he paid £52,000 for a colt out of thr Tiznow mare Aspasias Tizzy sold from Ger Hourigan's Whitehall Stud.

Kevin Prendergast was taken by a filly out of the Galileo mare Starfish for whom he paid £42,000 when sold from Frank and Liz Barry's Manister House Stud.
