Snitzel Mares Will Be Popular

Marvellous young Redoute’s Choice sire Snitzel’s oldest progeny are only six but he is already off to a spectacular start as a broodmare sire.

Mossfun wins the Inglis Nursery Picture: Racing and Sports

Mossfun, a first time runner from one of his daughters, recorded a classy debut win in the $250,000 Inglis Nursery on Randwick’s Kensington circuit.

Bought out of the consignment from Fairview Park for $85,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and trained for Nasser Lootah’s Emirates Park Stud by the Hawkes family, Mossfun is a filly by

Buffering’s sire Mossman from Eye For Fun, an unraced Snitzel filly.

Eye For Fun, born on August 10, was the third of the 87 foals (five died) in Snitzel’s first crop.

Including foals produced by the 249 mares he covered in 2012, the now 12-year-old Snitzel has about 700 offspring and is odds on to build up an impressive record as a broodmare sire.

Eye For Fun is a sister to the year younger Enjoyment and a half-sister to four winners, including Cat D’Antibes (won Gold Coast Ken Russell Classic, third BTC Champagne Classic and QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes) and Dehere’s Sydney winner Allegra.

Allegra is the dam of Eximus, an Exceed And Excel winner of two Listed races at Flemington and Sunshine Coast Guineas.

What Fun, the grandam of Mossfun by Canny Lad, won twice in Sydney and was one of six winners from More Happiness, a blood-sister by Nijinsky to the dam of the Emirates Park bred Brave Warrior, the sire from only two crops of Queensland champion racehorse and sire Show a Heart.

Mossfun is bred on similar lines conversely to Shamus Award, Snitzel’s winner of the Cox Plate, being from a mare by Mossman’s sire Success Express.

Snitzel has also had good success from use over mares by other Danehill free sires including General Nediym.

Snitzel's progeny include Snitzerland, Hot Snitzel, Flying Snitzel, Sweet Idea, Chance Bye, Petrol Power and Dances On Stars.
