Written Tycoon’s fee private for 2023

Written Tycoon’s workload will continue to be managed with only a select number of mares from outside the Yulong band to have access to the former Australian Champion Sire in 2023.

Yulong on Monday announced fees for their roster for the 2023 breeding season and the rising 21-year-old will again be the headline act, but at a private fee.

The son of Iglesia has stood the previous two seasons at a career-high fee of $165,000 but covered 148 mares last year after 199 matings in each of the previous two seasons and Yulong's chief operating officer Sam Fairgray said the strategy around him was all about ensuring his longevity.

"Written Tycoon is a Champion in every way, and we are taking special care of him as he ages," Fairgray said.

"Only a handful of outside mares will be bred to him this season. Written Tycoon has been a fantastic stallion and if we can keep breeding some nice foals by him then we'll be thrilled."

Written Tycoon has enjoyed another successful season, sitting in the top 10 of the general sires premiership with three months of the season to go with dual Group 1 winner Coolangatta his season's star.

Written Tycoon heads a roster that now also includes Pierro's son Pierata, who will stand for $44,000, the same he stood for last season at Aquis.

Grunt (O'Reilly) has earned an increase from $13,750 to $22,000 after producing Group 2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes winner Veight in his first crop, while Alabama Express will also stand for $22,000, which was his same fee as last year.

Japanese recruit Diatonic is Yulong's other new stallion, at $13,750, while the Victorian farm's two other stallions – Tagaloa and Lucky Vega – have both had slight reductions to $27,500 and $13,750 respectively.

"We are delighted to present a diverse roster that combines some of the best global sirelines at value fees that breeders can capitalise on commercially," Fairgray said.

"The support we show with our own elite broodmare band should give breeders total confidence that our stallions are provided every opportunity to succeed; not just in their first two seasons, but right through the unproven years."
