The Chris Waller-trained Castlecomer (2 g ex Barcelona Girl by Noverre) broke his maiden at the fifth time of asking in the Kentan Machinery 2YO Maiden Plate (1600m) at Gosford and in the process became the sixth winner for Widden Stud-based first-season sire Outreach (Exceed And Excel).

The two-year-old gelding came out on top of a close finish to beat Sky Lab (Real Impact) by a nose with another neck back to Solar Apex (Deep Impact) in third.

Castlecomer was purchased by his trainer and Guy Mulcaster for $150,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and he is the sixth winner out of Barcelona Girl (Noverre), who progeny is headed by Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Under The Louvre (Excellent Art), who now stands at Grandview Stud.

Barcelona Girl herself is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Master Harry (Magic Albert).

In 2018 Barcelona Girl produced a filly by former shuttler Bobby’s Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) - who is now named She’s Bobby’s Girl and she produced a brother to Castlecomer the following season.

Castlecomer joins Azzareach, State Of Class, Pee Dee, Outreach Belle and Rose Sauvage as the stallion's other winners and he will stand at stud for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
