Sole Heir breaks maiden

Gooree Park Stud-bred colt becomes sixth winner for Comical Smile.

The Gooree Park Stud-bred Sole Heir (2 c Exceed And Excel - Comical Smile by Comic Strip) broke his maiden over 1400 metres on Tuesday at Hawkesbury and became the sixth winner for his dam Comical Smile (Comic Strip).

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the colt scored a dominant one and three quarter length win over stablemate Marcassin (Spirit Of Boom), with a further two lengths back to Mollycoddle (Lonhro) in third.

Unraced, Comical Smile's six winners are headed by Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner and now Twin Hills Stud-based sire Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) as well as the Listed winning pair Surge Ahead (Danehill Dancer) and Kiss From A Rose (Encosta De Lago).

Sole Heir's second dam is the Listed-placed Explosive (Fappiano) who produced Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) winner and late sire Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago).

Comical Smile has a yearling colt by Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado) and was covered by Pierro (Lonhro) last December.

Meanwhile, Sole Heir's sister Absolutely Perfect is catalogued in foal to So You Think (High Chaparral) as Lot 518
