David Hayes counted his good fortune after Fantastic Treasure (Written Tycoon), originally a standby runner, capitalised brilliantly on being promoted into the field for the second section of the Class 4 Kut Cheong Handicap (1200m) to win on debut.

An Australian-bred son of Written Tycoon (Iglesia), the three-year-old was given an excellent ride by Chad Schofield.

"It was a nice win," Schofield said. "He's got good ability and he's still learning - he should make a nice horse."

Hayes, who said he has a number of young horses in his stable, said that he hoped Fantastic Treasure would develop into a good miler.

"It's great to win on any day, but to win for the owners – even from barrier 13 – at the Chinese New Year races is great," he said.

"I've got a lot of horses like this one - I've just got to be patient and let them develop."

Bred by Woodside Park, Fantastic Treasure was bought by Baystone Farm for $45,000 from the draft of his breeder at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premiear Yearling Sale. He becomes the fourth winner out of the twice-raced Redoute's Choice (Danehill) mare Brambling, who is a sister to Listed winner Maules Creek and a three quarter sister to Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed gelding Tangled (Snitzel), being out of the New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Bramble Rose (Shinko King). Brambling was sold for $8,500 at the Inglis Digital March (Late) Sale last year.

Hayes posted his first double since the season-opening fixture when Master Montaro (Toronado) returned to form with strong victory in the Class 4 Great Profits Handicap (1400m) under Vincent Ho.

"First time at 1400 metres, blinkers off and Vincent rode him a treat," Hayes said.

"He's a bit of a slow learner, so I think he'll get better with racing.

"I think he'll go up in class – he won't go crashing through with five wins in a row – but he'll get there because he's got the big engine and good constitution and I think he can run a mile, which is another string to his bow."
