A 1200 metre barrier trial has filled jockey Vincent Ho with confidence that Golden Sixty (Medaglia d’Oro) remains on target to extend his winning sequence to 13 in the Hong Kong Gold Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) at Sha Tin on February 21.

The Australian-bred was not pressured to finish seventh in an eight horse trial on the dirt finishing eight lengths behind Ka Ying Star (Cityscape) who clocked a time of 1:09.58.

“He felt really good, I’m happy with him,” Ho said. “I just let him stretch out with the faster pace, just kept him happy.”

Ho has ridden Golden Sixty in all of his 15 wins.

“Pretty similar (preparation), but he has been more relaxed work-wise, which has been good,” Ho continued.

Golden Sixty has not run over 2000 metres since his 2020 Hong Kong Derby (Listed, 2000m) victory and was last seen winning the Steward’s Cup (Gr 1, 1600m) on January 24.
