Arrowfield Stud shuttler Maurice (Screen Hero) sired his first winner as Kaiser Nova (2 c ex Stellar Lead by Special Week) broke his maiden at Hakodate over 1200 metres in Japan on Saturday.

Trained by Yoshito Yahagi - who saddled Lys Gracieux (Heart’s Cry) to victory in this season’s Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) - the colt beat Queen’s Moon (Gutaifan) by a length and a quarter with another neck back to Derma Kannon (Spielberg) in third.

The colt is out of Listed winner Stellar Lead (Special Week) and is from the family of Group 1 winner Second Empire (Fairy King) and Group 3 winner Balestrini (Danehill).

Maurice has covered 278 mares in his three seasons at Arrowfield Stud, but he will not return to the New South Wales-based stud this year due to restrictions because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The stallion stands at the Shadai Stallion Station in Japan.
