Big Party lands Group 3 in Hong Kong. The Frankie Lor-trained Big Party won Sunday's Bauhinia Sprint Trophy Handicap (Gr 3, 1000m) at Sha Tin and in doing so became the 166th stakes winner for Darley's Exceed And Excel (Danehill).

"If you see this race, I think you will say he could be one of Hong Kong's best sprinters. He's still young and I hope he can improve further," Lor said following Sunday's victory.

Big Party is now likely to be aimed at the Centenary Sprint Cup (Gr 1, 1200m) in three weeks' time.

Winning jockey Grant van Niekerk echoed the opinion of Big Party's trainer. "He's definitely good enough to run in that (Group 1) race, he's got potential and I think he's good enough to take on the big guns," he said.

The Australian-bred Big Party was a $420,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase from the draft of Bhima Thoroughbreds by ABC Bloodstock at the 2017 sale. He is out of the unraced Dehere (Deputy Minister) mare De Groove who has also produced the stakes placed pair Top Me Up (Exceed And Excel) and General Groove (General Nediym). His second dam is Tyrises (Last Tycoon), the dam of multiple Group 3 winner Taikun (Anabaa) and Listed winner Super Groove (Dehere).

Exceed And Excel has 30 lots catalogued for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale next month including Lot 226, a brother to Big Party, who will also be offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds.
