SCONE SATURDAY

RACE 3 (3) ALMANZORA: Promising filly won impressively on debut at Warwick Farm then had legitimate excuses when she stepped up to Group 2 company at Randwick on April 8 as she was trapped three wide without cover on the worse part of the track and the tough run took a toll on her when put under pressure. Bounced back to record an impressive trial win at Randwick on April 28 and that form must be respected as the two placegetters Malahat and Taking Aim have won races in the last week. Good track and a favourable draw are more reasons why she can turn her last start form around.

RACE 5 (1) PRIZED ICON: Class will carry this dual Group One winner a long way in this set weights field considering he would be conceding well over 10kg off the official ratings to all his rivals if this was a handicap. He has to come back from his excusable last start over 2400m in the ATC Derby (heavy track/thumps) but he’s had six weeks to freshen up and the good track must favour him as he never been out of the top three in all his starts on firm surfaces. He was sharp enough to win a trial over 1045m at Randwick on April 28 and the fact that he rates in the top eight Timeform three-year-olds in Australia this season gives him a huge call under these weight conditions.

RACE 6: (7) SIR BACCHUS: Expecting big improvement second up on a firm surface from this talented sprinter after he had little more than a barrier trial when resuming over 1000m on a heavy track at Randwick three weeks ago carrying 61kg behind Nieta. He was checked early and then was never extended over the last 200m after he ran into a dead end searching for a clear run. Drops 6kg from that run, he’s won twice when second up on good tracks and he’s well in at the weights, a worthy comparison being that he meets both Gold Symphony and Snoopy 4kg better for beating both those horses when they last met at Rosehill early this season.
