Saturday Post Mortem – July 22

Chris Scholtz reviews racing around Australia on July 22.

THE STARS

MICHAEL CAHILL: Three wins made it a good day at the office for the quiet achiever of Brisbane racing.

RACHEL KING: The late bloomer added another city double with two fine rides at Randwick. She is a star.

BOWMAN v AVDULLA: The riding premiership battles are livening up a dull winter. Craig Williams adds a double at Flemington while Bowman and Avdulla got at it hard at Randwick.

CRACK ME UP: Beats the older horses in Tatts Mile for back to back black type wins. Makes him the late star of the Brisbane winter.

JASON COYLE/DAVID PFEIFFER/MATT SMITH: Full credit to the job these talented trainers have done to rack up wining sequences with Memes, Pelethronius and Kings Of Leon.

CLINT JOHNSTON-PORTER: Promising Perth apprentice wins the Belmont Classic for his first black type success.

BOSS LANE: The modern day Randwick specialist. Dount Ron Quinton will want to venture too far from home with him ever again.

THEY SAID IT!

“My goal was to win the country, provincial and city premierships and I’ve won the three of them. As an apprentice that was my life goal and I’ve done it.” - Andrew Atkins reflects on his wonderful rise to be Sydney’s champion apprentice.

“She’s a cracker of a type for stayer. I’ve never had a 3YO like this one, not a staying filly.”- Darren Weir in raptures over the potential of Anchor Bid.

"He might be a bit better than we thought.” - trainer Peter Healey on his rating of former Hong Kong galloper Riyadh.

"The best wins are the ones you're not expecting." – trainer Peter Smith reflects on Play Master’s upset Flemington win.

“He’s a Gemini like me - he has a number of different characters. He’s three different characters from start to finish.” - Corey Brown on the quirks of Randwick winner Suncraze.

“Gai knows what she’s doping and I’ve been guided by her for a long time. I always go by what she says.”- Rachel King and her relationship with Gai Waterhouse.

“Ï guess you have start thinking when do you get serious about some nicer races.” - Jason Coyle on his next move with Memes.

“Ï liked it more than race five.”- Hugh Bowman after his Randwick win on Kings Of Leon after his earlier nose loss in Race 5 that could make big difference to the premiership.

SIN BIN

SUPER TOO: Very poor after her brilliant trials. One dimensional speedsters are always a risk.

KILIMANJARO: It will be a long climb back to the top for this import after this flop.

SHEISWHATSHEIS: Yes we know what she is – very ordinary!

BLACKBOOK

DRACARYS: Genuine improver as his distances increase.

ADMIRAL JELLO: Shaping nicely for something longer.

DUBAIINSTYLE: Going OK. Be prepared for sharp improvement.

ST VADUZ: Good prospect for longer races.

REBELLIOUS LORD: Held up too long for clear running. Good effort.
