Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Wednesday’s meeting at Canterbury.
Track: Heavy 8
First race: 1.15pm
Most Exalted (Race 1) has been costly to punter at times but the early money suggests he can make amends today. The James Cummings-trained three-year-old has firmed the best part of a point to take over as favourite at $2.90. He has been beaten less than 1L at his last two runs, has key gear changes with blinkers off and a nose roll on and meets rival Firebird Flyer 3.5kg better for a half length-margin last start.Diamonds Are (Race 2) has been a good go in early betting, firming two full points to take over as a clear market elect at $2.40. A first-starter from the Gai Waterhouse stable, the two-year-old has won both of his barrier trials ahead of today’s debut, one of those coming on a soft surface.
Dinghu Mountain (Race 3) has been backed into the red at $1.95 after firming nearly 50 cents. He opened a clear favourite and punters arte expecting him to improve on his fast-finishing fourth when resuming. He looks suited by the step up in distance and has the highest last-start rating in the field.Braces (Race 5) opened at good each-way odds but has taken over as favourite at $4 with TopBetta after firming more than two points. Fourth at this track and distance last start after a close second at Warwick Farm, punters have been attracted to his wet form, having won or placed at six of his seven runs on rain-affected surfaces.
