The Money Trail – Bendigo, Thursday June 2

Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Thursday’s meeting at Bendigo.

Track: Soft 5

Rail: True

First race: 12.25pm

Johnny Dowry (Race 1) has been a good early go, shortening from an opening price of $5 to a fixed odds quote of $3.70 and second favouritism behind an easing odds-on pop. He resumes at a staying trip but has been given four middle to long distance trials to prepare and gets the blinkers off for the first time.

Hard Spark (Race 2) has firmed more than two points early on and is so far one of the best backed runners of the day at $3.90. The filly weakened after leading last start but drops 300m in trip today. She had been runner-up at her previous three runs and the blinkers go on for the first time.

Dineamic Lad (Race 4) opened at good each way odds but his price has halved into a fixed odds quote of $4.60. The first starter from the Chris Waller yard hasn’t been seen at an official trial but punters are expecting the son of Hard Spun to make a strong debut.

Torelli (Race 6) is taking a step up in grade off a maiden win but the money suggests he is up to the challenge. He has firmed more than a point to take control of the market as a $3.20 early favourite. Trained by Darren Weir, he is by Tavistock so his breeding suggests the step up to a mile will be in his favour.

Swiss Kiss (Race 9) is a heavily supported $2.50 favourite, having firmed in 30c early. She resumes today after showing good promise at her first campaign, scoring wins at Yarra Valley and Ballarat before a break. Punters are banking on her continuing the winning run first up.
