VIC Betting Highlights – January 2

Start the New Year with a bang

TAB Sportsbet customers will kick off the New Year with a bang at Flemington.

The meeting, set to run on January 2, will see a $50,000 First 4 jackpot on the final race at Flemington.

Punters are set for a tricky affair as there are four last-start winners in the race – Secuma, Lohengrin, Right Idea and Diamond Diggler.

To be run at 5:15pm, the Williamstown Handicap (1400 metres) is set to boast a healthy six-figure First 4 pool with the help of the $50,000 kick-start.

Hawke favourite in Silver Chief

Cape Hawke has been installed favourite to win the Silver Chief Final at The Meadows on New Year's night.

TAB Sportsbet have opened up Cape Hawke at $2.80 ahead of track recordholder Heston Bale at $3.50.

Hutmaker, who will start from box two, is next best at $3.80 while Glen Gallon, drawn the outside box, is a $5 chance.

The race will go at 9:23pm Sunday evening and is part of The Meadows' 11-race card.

Inter Dominion markets could turn upside down

The running of the Seelite Windows & Doors National Trot at Alexandra Park on Saturday afternoon could have a dramatic effect on the Inter Dominion Trotters Grand Final market.

With current series favourite I Can Doosit ($3.70) engaged in the Grand Circuit event, the result of the race could have a dramatic effect on the Inter market regardless of whether the Mark Purdon & Grant Payne-trained runner wins or not.

Among I Can Doosit's competitors this Saturday are fellow Inter Dominion hopefuls Sovereignty, Raydon, The Fiery Ginga and Springbank Richard, just to name a few.

A race that could have a big bearing on the Pacers Inter Dominion market is the New Year's Cup at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Friday.

Mr Feelgood, the $5 equal second elect for the Inter, will collide with fellow Grand Circuit winner Washakie and Chariots Of Fire winner Lanercost.

Lanercost was specked early in Inter betting after opening at $21, with his current price half that at $10.
