Promising Karakatsanis Galloper To Resume At Kembla

Sailor's Farewell from the Con Karakatsanis stable will resume from a spell at Kembla Grange tomorrow to start his preparation which could lead to a trip to Queensland for the winter carnival.

The four-year-old gelding has missed a place just once in seven career starts and was last seen when winning a midweek race at Canterbury in August of last year over 1550m.

“We sent him out after his win at Canterbury and he has come back very well and we were happy with his trial leading into this,” said Karakatsanis.

“The only time he has been out of the money he finished fourth and the form out of some of his races has stacked up nicely,” he added.

The son of Fomalhaut will line up in the Kembla Grange Benchmark 70 Handicap (1300m) with regular stable jockey Jay Ford to ride.

“Tomorrow is possibly a bit short of his best as he prefers it over a mile and we will look to get him over 1900m or 2000m this preparation as he settles really well.”

“He is a very honest type and although this is one of his toughest tests to date I think he is an each way chance.”

The currently rated Heavy 8 Kembla Grange track should be of no concern for the gelding after winning at Nowra on a Heavy 10 last preparation.

Sailor's Farewell worked his way through country and provincial grades last preparation which included wins at Grafton and Nowra before claiming victory in his first metropolitan start.

“We will see how he progresses but if he comes on like I think he will then we may look at a Queensland trip with him,” Karakatsanis said.

“I think he is a genuine metropolitan horse and hopefully this preparation he can show that when he gets over a bit more ground.”
