Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for September 13.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Goulburn, Tuncurry, Geelong, Cairns and Bordertown.
GOULBURN: RACE 4 @ 2:45 PM
HIGHWAY STRIP (4) was good on debut and resumed here with a comfortable Maiden win when he led. He's promising and Nick Heywood sticking aboard is a decent push for his chances. Heywood gets off THOUGHTFUL (3) following a plain run at Moruya when he was heavily beaten again. His two efforts prior were impressive so forgiving. Peaks now and a much better effort is anticipated. ANNOUNCING (1) is another local with claims. She just missed twice at the provincials last campaign and will be better for the first-up run after a barn switch. That was in a 72 at Randwick-Kensington and this is much more suitable. She's been kept on the fresh side. WHITE TIGHTS (7) was tracking along okay before the latest and will use the rail. Freshened and she should be around the mark.
SELECTIONS: With Highway Strip.

TUNCURRY: RACE 5 @ 2:59 PM
NOVEMBER AIR (9) has raced three times, all at the provincials, and been competitive on each occasion. Closed with purpose to get up for third in a hot form race over 1300m at Hawkesbury last start. Perfectly placed to open her account. ALICE MAE (1) made it two minor placings from as many runs this prep when she chimed in late to grab third over 1250m at Newcastle last time out. No issues with her getting out to this distance for the first time. Looms as the major threat. SHEBRINGS BEAUTY (3) has been in the money seven times from 11 starts. Fair effort last time when fourth at Scone over 1600m. Placed 3/3 at today's distance. Deserves plenty of thought with blinkers applied for the first time. WELCOMETOBARBADOS (4) resumes. Best of three runs in the maiden prep was at this trip. Must be respected. THAT'S OUTSTANDING (7) is first-up from a spell and one to watch carefully in betting following a gelding procedure.
SELECTIONS: Keen on November Air.
GEELONG: RACE 4 @ 2:55 PM
AVENUES (1) looks the one to beat. He's had four runs to date, placing in the past three and beaten narrow margins at his past two. Some query onto turf here but it should be fine and with any luck from the wide draw he can break through. TORBELO (8) is the clear danger, placing in his past three. He was just behind Avenues last time but can turn the tables from a soft draw. SPECKY BOY (6) was good at big odds last start in a handy maiden at Bendigo, finishing second. Looks an out-and-out stayer who can figure here. LADY GRUNT (12) hasn't been far away of late and should take some beating. MUNGERANNIE (5) perhaps next best.
SELECTIONS: Avenues to win.
CAIRNS: RACE 3 @ 1:21 PM
Former Victorian ALMIGHTY JAB (5) resumes here but the form he showed when last in work was more than good enough to feature in a race like this. Gets Wiggins on to navigate from the sticky draw and can return a winner. LAKE VARNA (7) hasn't been too far off them at the past couple of outings and will be at peak fitness for this. Rates a serious contender. Former NSW galloper JOURNO (1) will find this easier than what he faced down south and any market confidence must be noted. FAST AS STEEL (2) rounds out the selections.
SELECTIONS: Almighty Jab to shed the maiden tag.
BORDERTOWN: RACE 3 @ 2:35 PM
RECIPROCAL (10) came from well back first-up when beaten just over 2L in sixth. Better for the hit-out and will appreciate the added trip. Expect him to prove too hard to stop. FALL OF ROME (1) was better last start when going forward to give a bold sight, beaten a lip when gunned down on the line. Will go forward again and takes benefit from the booking of Crowther. Big chance. PAINTED PONY (8) was an eye-catcher when resuming at Strathalbyn in a blanket finish. Fitter now but is drawn ugly. Watch for her launching late again. GREAT CITY (2) next best.
SELECTIONS: Reciprocal to win.
