Macarthur Sets Lofty Standard

Emerging three-year-old Macarthur returned with a bang last start and appears well placed to go back-to-back at Kranji this evening.

Due to contest the fifth event, the son of Charge Forward has won three of his six starts and is unbeaten for his new stable.

Formerly trained by Stephen Burridge, Macarthur joined James Peters' team mid-way through last year and proceeded to upstage the well supported Aramco in his stable debut.

Leading throughout under Vlad Duric, Macarthur proved most impressive when saluting easily by two lengths.

Returning a new career peak, Macarthur remains open to further improvement racing second up and has since trialled well in the lead up.

Admittedly he rises at the weights, however Macarthur still appears well placed as he is clearly a three-year-old heading in the right direction.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he sits clear on his last start performance and given he can improve off that, he looks to set a decent standard.

From the middle draw, expect Duric to be aggressive and adopt a forward position.

A winner of three of five attempts over this trip, he appears to hold a decent edge over his rivals and should prove very hard to beat.

The Shane Baertschiger trained I've Got A Feeling also won well first up and looms as a major threat despite the wide draw.

Only lightly raced, I've Got A Feeling notched up his second win from four attempts and he too appears a three-year-old heading in the right direction.

Proceeding to lead throughout at his last attempt, I've Got A Feeling has since been given a soft trial and appears more than capable of sprinting well fresh (59 days).

Having beaten home the talented Distinctive Darci at his second start, I've Got A Feeling is open to good improvement and does receive weight off Macarthur — though in truth he still has a bit to find on the latter.

From the wide alley, he is expected to press forward and is sure to be in this for a long way with John Powell sticking aboard.

The Stephen Burridge trained Aussie Eagle creates plenty of interest in his Singapore debut, formerly based in New Zealand.

Successful in breaking his maiden status prior to making the trip over, Aussie Eagle has displayed decent ability and remains under strong notice.

Formerly trained by Tony Pike, Aussie Eagle is arguably better over further, however he rates well and shapes as one of the leading contenders.

His two trials in the lead up have been inconclusive, though trusting Burridge to have him spot on for this event.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings not a great deal separates him from either Macarthur or I've Got A Feeling and hence he has to be respected.

Of the rest the Michael Clements trained Astrojet appears the next in line, despite safely held first up.

Unable to come into contention behind Noble Liason, Astrojet still found the line well and Michael Rodd appears a key booking.

Only lightly raced he has displayed good ability and a return to his best would see him right around the mark.

Good luck and happy punting.
