Huegill misses out on London Games

Geoff Huegill has missed out on a spot at the London Olympics after finishing fifth in the 100m butterfly final.

Geoff Huegill failed to extend his swimming comeback to the London Olympics at trials in Adelaide on Wednesday night.

Huegill, 33, finished fifth in 52.50 seconds in the 100m butterfly final, falling short of the top-two finish required to seal a spot at his third Games.

Chris Wright won the race in 51.67, with Jayden Hadler (52.09) securing the second individual berth.

Sydney 2000 bronze medallist Huegill retired in 2006 before losing 45kg to announce a comeback in 2008.

He claimed two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and two minor medals at last year's world championships in Shanghai.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be able to make it this far, it just goes to show if you set your goals .. you can go on achieve anything in your life," said Huegill, saying he would take some time away before deciding whether to continue swimming.
