Maresca: Still unclear when Chelsea's James will be fit again

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed uncertainty over Reece James' return to full fitness, leaving fans concerned about the defender's availability.

James, who has struggled with persistent injury problems since joining Chelsea, recently returned from a hamstring injury that sidelined him earlier this season.

However, a fresh setback ruled him out of the match against Leicester City and will see him miss at least two more games.

"Yes [he's had a scan]. The only thing we can say is that he is getting better day by day," said Maresca.

"We don't know how many days he needs. He's getting better."

Chelsea are set to face Heidenheim in the Europa Conference League on November 28, followed by a Premier League clash with Aston Villa on December 1.

James' absence leaves a significant gap in the squad, especially as the player has managed just 30 Premier League appearances since the beginning of the 2022-23 season.

Following his latest injury, James took to Instagram to share an emotional message, reflecting his frustration.

Meanwhile, rumours of a potential Chelsea exit for the highly-rated defender have surfaced, raising questions about his long-term future at the club.

Maresca's update on James adds to the growing uncertainty, with no clear timeline for the 23-year-old's recovery.

As Chelsea prepare for a busy fixture list, the team must adapt without their first-choice right-back, whose injuries have cast a shadow over his once-promising career.
