Weight Right For Telepathic In 2016 Coolmore Classic

Telepathic may not have the class of some of her 2016 Coolmore Classic rivals but a light weight can bring the mare into the contest.

Telepathic joins Amicus as the Chris Waller representatives in the 2016 Coolmore Classic, run over 1500 metres at Rosehill this Saturday, March 12.

While Amicus is already a Group 1 winner, Telepathic's best win has been at Listed level but she does have form lines to suggest she can measure up to the 2016 Coolmore Classic under the handicap conditions.

That includes a last start second to classy mare First Seal when beaten less than a length in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes.

“Running second to First Seal is certainly no disgrace,” Waller told Michael Felgate on RSN racing and Sport.

“She’s drawn to get a lovely run - it’s a handicap, that makes it an interesting race and brings her into it.

“She obviously has to improve to win a Group 1 but her first up run was terrific.”

Amicus is a winner of the Thousand Guineas and while she is coming off a four-length defeat last start Waller is hoping she can improve in the 2016 Coolmore Classic.

“We went forward from a wide gate and she just has no luck to get in and was under pressure the whole way,” Waller said of her effort in the Guy Walter Stakes.

“Her run was disappointing as a result.

“We’ll ride her a bit more conservatively tomorrow from a wide gate but she really needs to turn her form around.”

Earlier in the program Waller is expecting an improved performance from Who Shot Thebarman in the 2016 Sky High Stakes (2000m).

Winner of the Zipping Classic in the spring, Who Shot Thebarman is fitter for two preparatory runs and gets conditions to suit in the 2016 Sky High Stakes.

“He’s ready to go,” Waller said.

“He’s had two runs back from a spell, he steps up to 2000 metres in a set weights and penalties race – I’m hoping he’s ready.”
