Se Sauver stamped her ticket to the Thousand Guineas with success in the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
The win marked the first Group winner for talented young rider Damien Lane and it certainly didn't come easy with the second consecutive race on the card going into the stewards room.
Se Sauver came strongly on the outside but to the naked eye it did look to no avail with the David Hayes-trained Star Fashion looking to have held on in the tightest of finishes.
The photo showed otherwise but a protest ensued, this time, thankfully for Lane and connections of Se Sauver , the objection was dismissed and their filly keeps hold of some all important black-type.
Solicit took third with race favourite Politeness failing to finish off in the straight after racing wide. The markets second elect Wordplay was left with too much to do and closed between runners late.
“I honestly thought I got beat,” Lane said.
“We were going tooth and nail the whole way up the straight,” said Lane.
“I thought right on the line that he [Chad Schofield on Star Fashion] got me but obviously she got the bob in.
“She's determined, she's been without luck, particularly her last run was just a catastrophe.
“I was very optimistic coming into today, I knew she had it in her, she just needed luck in running.”
