Bede Murray's Darci Be Good has claimed the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup upsetting a crack field in stormy conditions.

The race was delayed almost an hour after poor weather conditions earlier in the day, but it didn't bother Murray's four-year-old who ended a 421-day winless run in the $150,000 feature.

John Thompson's Isopach ran into second while Praecido flashed home for an impressive third.

Jockey Kathy O'Hara settled Darci Be Good in fourth and always looked like surging home with the win.

“He takes a bit of riding this horse, I punched him out, put him in a spot and he travelled well where he was,” O'Hara said.

“Even though they did go a genuine speed I got moving on him early. Last start at Randwick he just railed away on the fence and it doesn't suit him he's quite strong and he's tough.

“At Hawkesbury it's a shorter straight so I sent him forward a bit early but it suits him, the way the race was run it worked out perfectly for him.

“It's great to ride a winner for these boys I had a lot to do with them at Kembla when I was an apprentice.”
