Rodd Suspended, McDonald Fined

Michael Rodd will ride at next Saturday's Sydney Cup meeting before beginning a careless riding suspension incurred at Randwick on Saturday.

The jockey was outed for shifting in on the finish line of the JRA Plate aboard third placegetter Larry's Never Late.

The abrupt movement caused a chain reaction on his inside with several horses inconvenienced.

Rodd's record of two suspensions since June last year went in his favour but chief steward Ray Murrihy said it could have been more serious.

"We were lucky we didn't have a fall," Murrihy said.

Jockey of the moment James McDonald copped a $200 fine for excessive whip use during his win on Temple Of Boom in the Group One Galaxy.

The young Kiwi could be excused for his exuberance considering it was his fourth win of the day and his first Group One success in Sydney.

McDonald won four races on Saturday's card at the beginning of a stint in Sydney before the Brisbane winter carnival.
