MARKET MOVES ROYAL ASCOT DAY FIVE - 2011

Let's look at the major market moves for Day Five at Royal Ascot.

We'll give you a bit of run down as to who is being backed at the time of publication with the TAB.

DAY FOUR – 18 JUNE 2011

Day Four Betting Highlights would have seen a tight struggle. Nathaniel's win was one which kept the punters in play in the King Edward but yet again in one of the big races the favourites didn't hit the board.

Race 1: The Chesham Stks (Listed)

('10 winner Zaidan 7-1)

The first shortie of the day comes up early in the shape of Maybe. Aidan had this filly win a maiden by 4.5L and being by Galileo, she will be strong late. But you have to take $2.20 to know. The other big stable Godolphin has a Street Cry filly Falls Of Lora ($5.50) off a 5L win and so you can imagine will have been targeted here. The day before it won, Telwaar won at the same venue by a decent margin too and at $8.50 could be value each way.

Race 2: The Hardwicke Stks (G2)

('10 winner Harbinger 8-11f)

The Hardwicke has a fairly impressive history you must agree. Last year Harbinger scored an impressive win leading into his King George triumph, Oscar Schindler ran as a Melbourne Cup fav, Jeune won the famous race and Almaarad came here to win a Cox Plate. This year Await The Dawn could be a potential Spring Cups horse given he has the right sort of credentials coming from lower group races, distances less than two miles and a trainer keen to change what happened last time. However you have to accept $1.65 on the betting boards. One of the few that might get involved is Passion For Gold ($10). The Goodwood win was strong even though it was in a small field.

Race 3: The Golden Jubilee Stks (G1)

('10 winner Starspangledbanner 13-2f)

A surprisingly small field of 17 for the Golden Jubilee as 20 plus is the usual play. Naturally much interest will be about the Aussie Star Witness as he backs up from the Kings Stand when running on for second. But the $4.50 looks to be short, especially with a wet track in the mix. Delegator would have probably started favourite on a dry track but there had been slows for him on the damp and he came out. Irish mare Bewitched won a G3 race on resumption beating Zoffany and we saw how that form has stood up. The track and the conditions won't bother her and you can get $4.60.

1.25am AEST

Race 4: The Wokingham Stks (Heritage Hcp)

('10 winner Laddies Poker Two 9-2f)

As usual the Wokingham is open. Hoof It ($7.50) took out a big field handicap last time out and Deacon Blues ($7.50) was just beaten here a month ago. But there might be value in the form of Pastoral Player who did a fine job at Newmarket in a rich handicap. $13 is about the market place.

2.00am AEST

Race 5: The Duke of Edinburgh Stks (Heritage Hcp)

('10 winner Cill Rialaig 16-1)

Modun was impressive taking out a race at Newbury by 4L and being out of a Sadler's Wells mare should handle any track. $4.40 is available about Sir Michael Stoute's charge. John Gosden brings Taqleed to the races and handles big field. The Shamardal 4yo is $7.50 at the moment while Sharaayeen in the same ownership has been in excellent form and is $7.50 on the TAB.

2.35am AEST

Race 6: The Queen Alexandra Stks (Conditions)

('10 winner Bergo 10-1)

The marathon race looked like a contest in two between Overturn and Elyaadi ($4.40) who has the hurdle form but the former has come out. Jumping form hasn't hindered others this week so he must be closely taken by punters. It would great to see Sir Henry Cecil win another Royal Ascot race and he has Ajaan on the comeback trail after tailing out in the Cesarewitch. But he won the start before that in a small field and is $9 here.

Hope you won plenty at Royal Ascot in 2011 – see everyone again in 2012.
