Lanciato wins 2018 Carrington Stakes Listed $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW), 1400m.
The consistent Mark Newnham-trained Lanciato is now the winner of four of his last five starts as he advanced to take out his first stakes race in 19 starts here. He was ridden quietly by Rachel King and settled in second last place in the ten-horse field before improving nicely along the rails at the home turn. He switched deeper and into clear running nearing the 100m and then finished too well under his limit weight (53kg) to win well.
Prized Icon began well and raced in third place on the rails. He moved up well on turning for home, challenged at the 200m and then fought gamely under his top weight (60kg) for second in a most promising effort resuming here for new trainer Kris Lees.
Endless Drama was fourth early on but eased when caught deep to race in seventh place (wide with cover). He went deep at the home turn, got to a narrow lead at the 100m and then battled strongly for a very good first-up third.
The favourite George Patton travelled in fifth place but racing a bit keenly in stages. He briefly looked a chance on straightening but then just battled for (5.7 lengths) seventh.
