Araldo Junior wins 2017 Pool Pro Queensland Cup Listed $150,000 at Sunshine Coast (QLD), 3200m.
Mike Moroney-trained, German import Araldo Junior put up a solid staying effort in achieving his first stakes success over 3200m here. He travelled nicely in sixth place, one off the rails, behind a steady tempo, before moving up well nearing the home turn. He raced to the front at the 200m and then drew away to score decisively.
The favourite My Diamantine raced in eighth place, one off the rails, commenced a good run (deep) approaching the home turn to challenge at the 200m. She then fought on well for a good second, albeit without troubling the winner.
Pop ‘N’ Scotch was midfield early on before making a midrace move to be fifth (wide, without cover) at the 1000m. He went to third at the 100m and then fought nicely to hold that position to the post, going well after working during the race.
