2017 Ubet W.J. Healy Stakes Group 3 June 24 - Doomben

Burning Passion wins 2017 Ubet W.J. Healy Stakes Group 3 $175,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1200m.

Consistent James Cummings-trained gelding Burning Passion, a winner of six (with seven placings) from 21 starts, advanced from winning a Benchmark 95 (1200m) at Eagle Farm on 27 May when having his second run this preparation to take out his first Group race here. He began well from his inside barrier (1) enjoyed a good trip in fourth place on the rails before getting through to take the lead at the 300m. He then fought back to score well.

The $26.00 chance Irish Constabulary raced in eighth place, on the rails, switched across heels and into clear running at the 300m. He challenged at the 200m and kept fighting well for a good second.

Too Good To Refuse raced towards the tail of the field (as usual) and was back in tenth place at the home turn before running on well for third, appreciating the fast early tempo.

The favourite Deploy raced in seventh place, moved up (deep) from the 600m, put in a run (wide out) at the 300m and kept making ground, without threatening for (3.1 lengths) fourth, Flippant was a handy fifth most of the way and did well in holding that position to the post while the top weight (60.5kg) Dothraki had a hard run, caught deep in third place on a solid tempo, before finishing a sound (3.8 lengths) sixth after working most of the way.
