Payroll put up a really smart effort in winning here after missing the start. She settled last place in the 11-horse field, behind a strong pace. Damien Oliver steered her along the inner nearing the home turn, was briefly held up before getting through on the rails to hit the front at the 1000m and she then kept fighting back to score well.
Maryore settled in second last second last place, improved (wide) on straightening, sprinted quickly to challenge at the 100m and then battled gamely for a good second.
Double Impact had a good trip in third place, behind a strong pace. He briefly got to the front at the 200m and then held on well for third.
The favourite High Midnight led but was pressured in front (by Allknight Saint) and after setting a fast tempo, he weakened quickly from the home turn to finish last.
