Saint Patricks Day wins 2017 Ubet Dalrello Stakes Listed $100,000 at Eagle Farm (QLD), 1200m.
The Chris Munce-trained colt Saint Patricks Day advanced quickly after his win in a Sunshine Coast 2YO Maiden (1000m) on 9 April when having his second race start, to score impressively in Listed class here. He settled back in sixth place, behind a good pace, improved between runners nearing the home turn and went through to second at the 200m. He took the lead at the 100m and then held on to score well.
Capital Gain was slow to move and settled at the tail of the ten-horse field. He was still last at the home turn, where he went widest of all. He then ran on strongly in the closing stages for an eye-catching second.
The favourite Snitzkraft showed good pace to lead and then ran along at a strong tempo on the Soft 7 track (first 600m in 36.31). He grabbed a break on straightening but weakened after his early efforts from the 100m to finish third, putting up a sound effort under the circumstances.
