Viddora wins 2017 R N Irwin Stakes Group 3 $120,000 at Morphettville (SA), 1100m.
The Lloyd Kennewell-trained mare Viddora maintained her consistent form with a deserved Group success here, her second at stakes level and her sixth win in 19 starts. She settled in fifth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), got through to third on straightening and then finished too well for score a smart win.
The favourite Illustrious Lad settled back in seventh place, trapped deep from his outside barrier (9). He went widest of all at the home turn, put in a good run, going to fifth at the 100m and kept finished well for a good run, his wide barrier proving costly.
I Am Gypsy showed good early pace and soon went to the front. She was challenged rounding the home turn but kept fighting back and did well in holding on for third.
Casino Wizard was a handy third but trapped deep and held on nicely for (2 lengths) fourth while Petits Filous raced outside the leader (I Am Gypsy), looked dangerous at the home turn but tired over the closing stages to finish (2.4 lengths) fifth.
