Sircconi wins 2017 Mss Security Sires’ Produce Group 2 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC) 2yo, 1400m.
From barrier five, jockey Linda Meech immediately sent Sircconi for the lead, initially by a half length yet between the 1000m and the 800m stretched the lead slightly to a length. Meech sat quietly until the home straight then asked him for more with a shake of the reins inside the 400m. She gave him a slap at the 250m and the colt dug in, edged clear by three quarters of a length at the 100m but within the shadows of the post was challenged very strongly and did really well to cling on gamely by a head for a tenacious win in good time.
Aspect was second starting the big bend, moved a little closer turning in and went hard from the 300m, fighting very well and almost catching the winner right on the line for a narrow, hard fought second.
Feng Chu tracked the winner next to fence to the home turn, looked for a run at the 300m and ground away for third without looking like catching the first two.
Toga Picta sat one out and one back into the home straight, challenged but could do no better than fourth. The first four turning in were the first four home.
