She Will Reign wins 2017 Silver Slipper Stakes Group 2 $250,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 2yo, 1100m.
She Will Reign put up a very impressive effort in winning here and maintaining her unbeaten record, now winning all three starts. She was surprisingly slow to move and settled at the tail of the seven-horse field. She improved along the inner from the 600m getting through to be third on straightening. She dashed to the front at the 200m and then went on to score comfortably. She is now the TAB’s $3.00 favourite for the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) on 18 March and should prove hard to beat after this very smart performance.
Veranillo raced outside the leader (Mystic Empire), went to the front briefly at the 300m and then fought on well for second, having no chance with the winner in the latter stages.
Showtime settled in fourth place on the rails, put in a run from the 300m and kept fighting on nicely to take the minor placing while the second favourite Khan disappointed. He settled back in second last place in the seven-horse field, got along the rails at the home turn but failed to much ground and then weakened for (6.4 lengths) last perhaps being affected by the Soft 5 conditions.
