Palazzo Pubblico wins 2016 Alinghi Stakes Listed $120,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yo+Fillies & Mares, 1100m.
Palazzo Pubblico, a $31 chance was a surprise first-up winner, but she staged a very good performance, nevertheless. She settled near last in the 11-horse field, switched deep rounding the home turn and then produced a strong run to hit the front at the 50m and went on to win quite impressively.
Aegean Sea settled back in second place, tracking the leader (Aunty Mo). She briefly took the lead at the 100m and then battled on nicely to hold second.
Vezalay raced fifth place, put in a bid at the 100m and then fought on quite well for third.
Miss Promiscuity showed her usual pace, was third to the home turn and held on quite well for fourth, beaten just over a length.
