Runway Star wins 2016 Ubet Proud Miss Stakes Group 3 $120,000 at Morphettville (SA) 3yo+Fillies & Mares, 1200m.
Despite jumping from the inside barrier, Runway Star was slow to find her feet however rider Dom Tourneur did not panic and once settled moved the mare up along the fence to be midfield between the 800m and the 600m. Saving ground, the pair were camped in behind the leaders into the last corner and upon straightening found room, one off the fence. Tourneur rode the mare strongly and she responded by inching up under the field, taking a narrow lead at the 100m and then holding on gallantly to the finish.
Private Secretary was equal last (rails) at the 700m, tracking the winner to the last corner. She got away from the rail into the straight but found no clear room until late, rattling home best but not in time.
A Lotta Love sat behind the leading bunch passing the 700m but into the last corner had to switch back to the inner, where she found a clear view then ran up to the lead only to be outgunned on her inner by the winner and by Private Secretary late for a solid third.
