Mabeel wins 2016 Fairdale/Goodwood Studs Fly Listed NZ$50,000 at Awapuni (NZ), 1400m.
From barrier 11 Mabeel was quickest into stride and took over by a couple of lengths inside the first 200m. By the 800m Mabeel cleared out, putting six lengths on them and was cruising. Jockey Sam Spratt eased a little before the home straight but still led by four lengths out in the middle of the track. In the better going, Mabeel was shaken up and set sail for the judge with Spratt urging him on. There was a little wobble at the 200m but Spratt straightened him and they never gave anything else a chance.
Seize The Moment was a distant third at the 600m then moved up to be second turning in but had no chance with the winner, yet stayed on well to beat the rest to the line.
Scapolo got off the rails at the 600m and moved up to fifth but a long way off the lead. He threaded his way through, tracking Seize The Moment, but the race was over by then and battled on to hold third.
