Catch A Fire wins 2016 Angus Armanasco Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yoFillies, 1400m.
Progressive filly Catch A Fire stepped up quickly after winning a Maiden Plate (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 12 February to scoring in good style in this Group Two race. She worked in the early stages from barrier nine before settling outside the leader (Cana) at the 1000m and they then steadied the pace (first 800m 48.77). She moved up on straightening, got the front at the 200m and went on to score quite impressively.
Mossin' Around had a good trip in third place, briefly looked a threat at the 200m and then kept fighting on well to hold second, having no chance with the winner.
Top weight (57.5kg) Pasadena Girl, having her first run since finishing fourth in the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) in November, was back in eighth place before commencing a wide move rounding the home turn. She then kept running on well and got up in time to take a good first-up third.
Cana led the field until nearing the 200m and held on for (2.6 lengths) fourth.
