Lite’n In My Veins wins 2015 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic Group 3 $150,000 at Ascot (WA) 3yo, 1400m.
Fred Kersley-trained three-year-old gelding Lite'n In My Veins put up an excellent effort in taking out this Group Three race on debut. He travelled well in fifth place on the rails and improved between runners rounding the turn. Douglas Whyte steered him through a gap at the 200m, he hit the front at the 100m and then fought gamely for a strong win.
Yoshi Noxious was second last in the nine horse field to the 600m. He went deep rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and continued to fight gamely for a good second.
Pushin' Shapes settled in seventh place, one off the rails. He improved (wide) from the 600m, briefly hit the front at the 200m and then fought on well for a good third.
Favourite Let It Slip was last to the home turn, went wide on straightening and she made late ground, without threatening, to finish (3 lengths) fourth.
