Strada Cavallo wins 2015 John Grigg Stakes Listed NZ$50,000 at Ashburton (NZ) 3yo, 1400m.
From barrier five, Strada Cavallo jumped well but soon drifted although better than midfield, firstly on the rails, but just before the straight made a forward move to be on the leaders heels. Into the straight, she was very wide and took time to get balanced, running about then finally settling down for a solid run at the leader and favourite Windborne. With 50m remaining there were four across the track but Strada Cavallo edged clear to win narrowly but well at the line.
Princess Davone had two behind her with 600 metres to run and her position looked ugly as the field straightened, but she doggedly threaded her way through and led at the 50m only to be run down in the last strides - a good effort.
Brighton was midfield to the turn and followed Windborne into the straight and found room when the field fanned. He ranged up to Windborne but on his outside, the winner and runner-up edged past with fifty to go. Windborne had every chance, leading half way down the straight but racing greenly and not able to hold out the first three.
