Srikandi wins 2015 Sky Racing Tatt’s Club Tiara Group 1 $500,000 at Gold Coast (QLD) Fillies & Mares, 1400m.
Srikandi followed up her Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m) win with another impressive Group One victory here. She was quickly away from her wide barrier (15) and soon worked across to take the lead. She then travelled well, setting an average tempo (first 800m 49.36) before going a bit deep (looking for better going) rounding the home turn. She then held on strongly to her lead and seemed to score with something in hand.
Avoid Lightning had a good trip from her inside barrier (1) racing in fifth place on the rails. She got through on the inner at the home turn, going to second at the 200m and then fought gamely for a very good second.
Lumosty began well and soon moved through to race outside the leader (Srikandi). She was under riding on turning for home but stuck to her task and fought on well to hold the minor placing.
Bound For Earth was seventh (between runners) to the home turn and battled on quite well in the straight for (4.9 lengths) fourth. Peron was back in 12th place before getting a split at the 300m. She went to fifth at the 200m and battled on to hold that position to the post.
Catkins began quite well but was then shuffled back and settled towards the tail of the field, between runners. She was held up for clear running until passing the 200m and then ran on to finish (5.9 lengths) sixth, without being fully tested.
